So, in this post, we are gonna talk about a show which we have watched in more than one ways. We have binge-watched it, re-watched it, re-winded and replayed, and god knows, how many times! It took a decade of our lives and still continues to beat in our hearts! Some shows can never be remade or replaced – such was the magic of F.R.I.E.N.D.S! In this post, we will sit back and enjoy all the amazing decade of our lives – What F.R.I.E.N.D.S taught about Love & Relationship?
What F.R.I.E.N.D.S taught about Love & Relationship?
What would F.R.I.E.N.D.S have been without a good romance or two? The six besties might always have moaned about being unlucky in love, but my goodness, they had their fair share of dates. But what hooked us to watch them more was how they grew through their perspective on love and relationships with each breakup and heartbreak they experienced.
Let’s see what each of these friends taught us over the years on love and relationships!
Love can be Crazy!
I bet you didn’t forget the Thanksgiving Episode! The best think about Monica and Chandler is that they weren’t the perfect couple, but they were definitely the perfect balance to each other! They could be angry at times and also be ridiculous in their love for each other, but they still always made us laugh. The pure silliness in their love, in fact, taught us that Love can indeed be crazy! It doesn’t always have to be intense like in the movies, it can be silly yet pure.
Over the decade, the ‘F.R.I.E.N.D.S’ power couple, Monica and Chandler definitely showed us that to stick together, and get through all sorts of hard times… you got to be good friends, supportive, funny, silly, and most importantly, crazily in love with each other!
Love can be Heartbreaking…
For all we know, Ross and Rachel’s relationship has been a true roller coaster ride throughout the entire series. They have gone on-off-and on-and-off again and again until the last episode of season 10, where they finally got back together. But, seriously they had faced so many hardships. They were in love one day, they got married all drunk, they had a baby the next, then they hated each other, then they were in love again. Maybe not the best love story but in every way, whether together or not, they have always looked out for each other!
Yes, the famous “We were on a Break’. How can we forget that phase which was just the beginning of the storm! They loved, cared, fought, broke up, dated many in between, broke up with them too, they were a complete mess but one thing that they didn’t let go was “their friendship”. And that is why in the end, their love triumphed.
There’s no simple answer as to why love can be so hard sometimes even when two people love each other irrevocably. It just is. Rachel and Ross is the perfect example of a couple that worked really, really hard until the end to make it work. They definitely showed us that love can be hard and heartbreaking, but if you really do, it’ll be worth it!
Sometimes, Love simply Sucks!
Well, love can be truly crappy as we can learn from Phoebe’s journey throughout the season! In one of Phoebe’s many catchy songs, “Your Love” she compares Love to “a giant pigeon…crapping on my heart.”
You remember David, right? David the scientist guy tried so hard till the end. If Mike never came into the picture, David totally would have ended up with Phoebe. It was kind of interesting how they kept going on and off throughout the series.
They could have done a flash-forward episode showing what could have happened if David hadn’t gone to Minsk. That would have been enthralling. But the love of Phoebe and David definitely taught us that even “when you know you’ve found the one, you might now end up with him.”
Seriously, what sucks more than falling in love but not getting to experience life with them. It may not always turn out how you want it to be and you have to take the good with the bad. ‘F.R.I.E.N.D.S’ definitely showed us that sometimes, love sucks but it happens to us all, even to the happy-go-lucky, Phoebe Buffay.
Love can be Selfless
Who else can be a better example of Selfless love other than Joey Tribbiani. Who would have thought Joey, who falls in love every other day, with every other girl he meets would fall in Love for real. And that too with our Rachel!
Joey always knew Rachel and Ross always loved each other, irrespective of their on-and-off’s. Despite that, Joey couldn’t help falling for Rachel and caring for her when she needed the most. Joey has always displayed a compassionate and unselfish love towards her without any expectation of getting her love in return. He was indeed her Best Friend!
However, Joey’s love stayed one-sided as Rachel couldn’t stop loving Ross ever. And for a very short while when Rachel had changed her mind and decided to stay with Joey, Ross was hurt and was not supportive of it. Joey considered as the “less smart guy” of the group, decides not to lose either of his friends because of his feelings towards Rachel. He chooses to be there for Rachel forever but as her Best Friend.
And, yeah, Goodbyes are really really hard…
Whether Richard and Monica break up on the dance floor of Barry and Mindy’s wedding.
or, When Rachel says the most heart-aching Goodbye to Ross
or, “The Last One” when the six friends tearfully turn in their keys to the apartment as they prepare to go their separate ways.
Every time, Goodbyes hurt like a Bitch! And every time it made us cry. That’s the power of true love between partners, friends, or family – it causes an excruciating pain.
Although throughout the 10 seasons, the 6 characters on F.R.I.E.N.D.S have had as many as 135 sexual partners, at least two-thirds of them coupled up by the end of the series. With Chandler and Monica marrying in season seven and Ross and Rachel finally putting their “will-they-or-won’t-they” storyline to rest in season ten, they grew closer and tighter!
We know there won’t be any other show that can even come close to F.R.I.E.N.D.S but we can always go back to them, whenever and wherever we want! Follow thebreakupcafe for more interesting posts!
